The driver who caused a chain collision while intoxicated turns out to be a foreigner.
Without insurance and facing possible deportation, it seems there’s no way to get compensation.
Reporter Song Jeong-hyeon’s exclusive report.

A black sedan accelerated, crashing into two parked cars on the shoulder and coming to a stop.
A motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction stopped abruptly, and the police were soon on the scene.
The driver of the offending vehicle was a 30-something man from Uzbekistan, with a blood alcohol level of 0.22%, a level that indicates severe intoxication and a revoked license.
The accident occurred here.
The foreign driver, who had been drinking at a nearby restaurant, caused the accident while making a U-turn on the road ahead.

“The front right side of the car was completely crumpled, exposing the engine.”
The victim’s vehicle was severely damaged, but it was confirmed that the foreign driver had no insurance.
The victim can only claim compensation from their own insurance, but often the foreign driver is no longer in Korea when the insurance company tries to seek reimbursement.
Foreigners who receive fines of over 3 million won at once or a total of more than 5 million won over five years face deportation.
The offending driver is also likely to face deportation.

“A blood alcohol level of 0.22% is at the highest end. The likelihood of receiving a deportation order is very high.”
The number of foreign drunk driving cases is increasing annually, making it urgent to implement measures to prevent similar incidents.
